Block

Label + value

A label and its value kept together as one piece — "Invoice no." beside the number — with an optional rule underneath.

What it is for

One block that owns both halves of a labelled line: the label, the value, and the hairline they may sit on. It saves hand-placing a label, a value and a line separately and keeping the three lined up. The value is ordinary text, so it can be fixed wording or pulled from your data.

It is not an input. It prints a label and a value; nobody types into it in the finished document. For a blank to be filled in by hand (a signature line, a tick-box) use a Form control. For text with formatting on single words use a Text block; for several values per line use a Table.

Add and edit it

"Label + value" is one entry in the palette (in the Layout group) and in every + Add block menu, with six shapes behind it. Open the list beside it and pick one:

  • Label + value — a label and its value side by side, nothing ruled under them. This is what the entry itself adds.
  • Underlined row — the same block with the rule already switched on, under both halves, and a 40 mm label column.
  • Fill-in line — a label with a ruled blank line beside it to write on (a Form control).
  • Fill-in box — one box ruled on three sides, open on the right (a Ruled form).
  • Four ruled rows — four label/value rows, each on its own hairline (a Ruled form).
  • Checkbox — a tick-box with its label (a Form control).

Only the first two make a Label + value block; the side panel names whichever one you picked.

Double-click the label to edit the label, and the value to edit the value: the two sides edit independently, in place. Everything else is in the side panel. Both sides are plain text, so Bold and Italic on a single word are refused with a note: the Bold toggle styles a whole side, and Change type → Text turns the pair into a Text block whose words you can format one by one (point at → Text first to see the result: the label and value become one line).

Settings

A new pair says "Label" and "Value".

  • Label. The field's name, usually fixed wording such as "Invoice no.".
  • Sub-label. An optional second, smaller line under the label — a note, a code, a translation. Empty reserves no space.
  • Value. Fixed text or a value from your data, written like {{ $data.invoice.number }}. You can mix: EUR {{ $data.total }}. It is printed as plain text.
  • Arrangement. Inline (label | value), the default, puts the value beside the label. Stacked (label above value) gives both halves the full width, so a long value wraps under its label.
  • Value align. Left (default), Center, Right or Justify, for the value only. The label is always left-aligned. Right-align money so figures line up.
  • Label width (inline only; the section disappears when stacked). Auto (equal share), the default, splits the line equally between label and value. Fixed (mm) is an exact size. Weight is a share of the space against the value's own share of 1 (a weight of 1 is an equal split; a weight of 2 gives the label two thirds). Shared column is a named width used by several pairs (or Row columns) so a whole column of fields lines up: change it once and all follow. If a shared width cannot be found, the label falls back to an equal share.
  • Rule. No rule (default), Under value or Under all, with a thickness (default 0.4 mm), a colour (default black) and a line style (solid, dashed, dotted). The rule sits on the bottom edge of the pair with the text sitting on it. Under value runs under the value column only; Under all runs under the label too. Stacked pairs are full width already, so both look the same there.
  • Label style, Sub-label style, Value style. Each has its own size, font, bold, italic and colour. They never fall back to each other: a smaller or grey sub-label has to be set on the sub-label.

A fixed gap of 2 mm always separates label and value in the inline arrangement. A pair never splits across a page: it always moves whole, so a label can never end on one page with its value on the next.

Variations and combinations

Invoice number. Two inline pairs with a Fixed 40 mm label width: "Invoice no." and "Issued". The fixture is field-pair-1.json. With invoice.number = "INV-2026-0142" and invoice.date = "7 October 2026" the page reads "Invoice no. INV-2026-0142" and "Issued 7 October 2026", with both values starting at the same place.

Right-aligned total. Label "Total due", value EUR {{ $data.total }}, Value align Right, Rule Under all (0.4 mm, black), bold label, bold 13 pt value. The fixture is field-pair-2.json. With total = "1,452.00" the page shows "Total due" at the left, "EUR 1,452.00" at the right margin, and a hairline under both.

Rows that share one label width. Three rows (Customer, Customer no., Contact person), each set to Shared column with the same name, defined as 45 mm. The fixture is field-pair-3.json. With the sample customer (Baltic Timber SIA, C-20418, Elina Kalnina) the three values start in one straight column. Changing the shared width moves all three at once.

Stacked long address. Arrangement Stacked, label "Delivery address", sub-label "Lieferadresse" in 8 pt grey. The fixture is field-pair-4.json. The label and its sub-label sit above, and the long address gets the whole line width and wraps beneath them rather than being squeezed beside the label.

Output differences

  • PDF and web page (HTML). Label, sub-label, value, alignment and the rule are drawn as laid out.
  • Word (.docx). An inline pair becomes a borderless one-row, two-column table so the label wraps at its column and the value aligns beside it; the rule becomes the bottom edge of the cells in its colour, weight and style. A stacked pair becomes ordinary stacked paragraphs. The exact column widths follow the layout, but Word may re-flow text slightly differently from the PDF.

Troubleshooting

  • The value does not line up with the one above. The label widths differ. Give all the pairs the same Fixed (mm) width, or better a Shared column.
  • The rule runs under the label too. Rule is Under all; choose Under value.
  • The Label width section is missing. The pair is Stacked; switch back to Inline.
  • A long value is squeezed. Make the label narrower, or switch to Stacked.
  • I cannot bold one word. Both sides are plain text. Use the style strip for a whole side, or change the pair to a Text block.
